Background

Sixty6 Acres Woombye is a farm-based holiday venue, offering a range of rural style accommodation and recreation activities, located between Diddillibah Road and Paynter Creek, Woombye.

The rural setting offers a unique holiday experience, with capacity for over 250 guests, in a range of accommodation options, all serviced by onsite wastewater treatment and disposal.

Onsite wastewater management for the site is recognised as an Environmentally Relevant Activity (ERA) and is subject to environmental approval by the state government.  Tectonic was asked to provided site assessment, conceptual design modelling and to help negotiate the environmental approval process.

Scope

Tectonic completed a detailed site and soil assessment, including subsurface investigation and laboratory analysis to identify site specific opportunities and constraints to onsite wastewater management.  A design was prepared featuring unique water reuse strategies, and feasibility modelling was completed using MEDLI to confirm long term viability of the project.

The ERA application process was successfully guided by Tectonic, ultimately achieving approval for the proposed site activities. Tectonic continue to provide monitoring and compliance support for the project.

Challenges

Managing the safe disposal of large quantities of treated effluent in proximity to various recreational users and sensitive receptors.
Ability to utilise water resources effectively using innovative effluent reuse and recycling opportunities, through irrigation of onsite hobby crops meeting overarching design intentions.
Negotiating successful outcomes with local and state authorities.
