Background

Tectonic has been involved with the Pelican Waters residential community since 2016. This ongoing development includes canals, roads, bridges, underground infrastructure and green spaces.

Scope

Through multiple phases of investigation including shallow boreholes and test pits, deep rotary drilling and cone penetration (CPT) testing, Tectonic have regularly updated and maintained the geological model for the site on behalf of the client.

Canals

Investigation and advice around soft soils, global stability and revetment walls. This has included dynamic feedback to the designers on invert levels, batters and temporary works. Since construction, Tectonic have been engaged to provide site specific stability assessments on the canal batters.

Bridges

Targeted investigation around several smaller pedestrian and road bridges, and larger trunk corridors through the site such as Spitfire Banks Drive. At the latter Tectonic completed deep investigation, preloading analysis and monitoring and temporary works advice (e.g. piling platform, batter stability).

Earthworks & Construction Advice

Quality assurance and 'Level 1’ reports, regular construction inspections on adverse ground conditions. Tectonic also undertook site classifications at completion.

Challenges

Work has been designed to mitigate against a variety of the potential geo-hazards at the site, which include:

Re-use of potentially unsuitable site won materials (e.g. treatment of soft clays)
Soft soils: settlement analysis an advice including preloading, installation of wick drains, limitations on future building.
Acid Sulfate Soils
Adverse construction conditions mitigated through monitoring (e.g. water quality and dust)
